Our top Symphony Orchestra level is geared towards the advanced level player. Repertoire includes original music on the university and professional levels. Sectionals explore the interpretive and more complex aspects of orchestral music.
In order to participate in BAYS, all public and private school students are required to participate in their school’s band or orchestra (specific to the students’s instrument) when such a program exists. Details about this policy are available on page four in the BAYS Member Handbook.
Equipment and Music
Music will be provided by the conductor. Students will provide their own 1/2″ or 1″ black binder with their first and last name printed on the inside cover. Students are required to bring this music binder to each rehearsal and concert and keep it organized. If the need arises for an additional music copy, please notify your conductor by e-mail no later than 24 hours before the next rehearsal. Music will not be copied during scheduled rehearsal time.
Large percussion instruments will be provided. Students are responsible for mallets, sticks and small accessory percussion needs. Cellos and basses will need to provide their own roc-stops.
BAYS accepts talented string, wind, and percussionists aged four through high school senior. Symphony level caters to the more advanced player. String level and Preparatory level provides talented elementary/intermediate aged string players the experience and opportunity to perform in an organized string ensemble. Placement is based on audition.
Attendance at all rehearsals is expected. Specific rules and guidelines will be available in the BAYS Member Handbook. Students must notify their conductor a week prior to missing a rehearsal if there is a schedule conflict in order to be excused. Examples of a missed rehearsal might be a school band trip or senior musical performance. Check the calendar for rehearsal schedule.
