All new AND returning BAYS students will need to submit a new application and application fee. Only new members will need to complete the audition process. Students will then be placed into one of two levels: Symphony or Preparatory.

Students making the All-Area and/or All-State ensembles are automatically accepted into the Symphony. All-State students will need only to submit an application and proof of All-State membership.

Prospective students requesting membership into Symphony will be accepted until all positions are filled. Once the audition process is complete, all new members will be notified of orchestra placement. Symphony and Preparatory auditions are to be held on May 26th and June 9th. Audition Preparation

The audition time is approximately 10 minutes per audition. Auditions are closed to parents and the general public.

Strings

Students should be prepared to play up to four minutes of a prepared piece, preferably from major concertos or sonatas. Region etudes and state etudes ARE acceptable material for the audition into the Symphony strings level orchestra. Students will be asked to play 2 prepared scales of their choice. Sight-reading will also be included in the audition process.

Woodwind/Brass and Percussion

Students should be prepared to play up to four minutes of a prepared piece, preferably from major concertos or sonatas. Region or all-state etudes ARE NOT acceptable material for winds/brass and percussion. Students will be asked to play 2 prepared scales of their choice.  Sight-reading will also be included in the audition process.

All parents/members please attend this brief general meeting at Space Center Intermediate School. The meeting will begin at 2:15PM sharp and we don’t anticipate that it will take more than 20-30 minutes. The position of secretary is up for election.

  There will be a small fee of $15.00 to help us cover the cost of renting the building and the Tshirt. Checks should be made payable to Bay Area Youth Symphony and must be received by April 11th. Please include your name in the memo line. Your teacher may be helping to collect this fee or you may mail it to the address below. If we did not receive the $15 it is possible that you will not have a shirt ready for you on this day. Haven’t heard? Our Symphony level students will be performing on stage with the Houston Symphony in December 2012 for its Family Christmas Celebration Concert. This will be a lifetime experience for students and an awesome college application opportunity. Students may set up an audition by submitting an interest request and sending in an application and $25.00 fee. Auditions will be scheduled by appointment throughout April and May 2012.

BAYS is proud to announce our enrollment in Kroger’s “Neighbor to Neighbor” Donation Program. The program is a great way for nonprofit organizations to raise money and allow any 501(c) (3) charitable organization the opportunity to earn a portion of the $1 million that will be donated annually.

Simply print the donation form below and present it with your Kroger Plus card at the beginning of check out next time you go shopping. The cashier will scan your Kroger Plus card first and then the BAYS bar code at the bottom of the letter. Once this process is complete, you will be enrolled as a supporter for the remainder of the current program year. Here is an easy way to help support the Bay Area Youth Symphony. The proceeds from your donations will benefit both the Preparatory and Symphony level orchestras and will help with facility rental, concert programs, sheet music, and more.

Items will be collected at each rehearsal and will be taken to Half Price Books one week before each concert on behalf of BAYS.

Any items not accepted for cash will be donated by Half Price Books to various nonprofit organizations.

Cuisine India will donate 10% of all patron buffet sales on the last Saturday of every month between 12 and 2pm to Bay Area Youth Symphony, beginning August 27th, 2011 and ending May 26th, 2012 (the length of our symphony season).
